Falling for Fall
It’s October!! Y’all. Seriously. This is good. Like very good. The news has really been pretty crumby so to be totally transparent with you all, I REALLY needed some good news. And I know what you’re thinking, October is not news. It happens every year. And you are right! But I’ll take it. I’ve been waiting to spooky style this Hamilton Dress from Unique Vintage since August and I just really wish it was acceptable to carry a jack-o-lantern as a purse. October is not just about orange candy buckets, German Beer, making the difficult decision to dress spooky, ironic, or in your little sisters size 4T Alice in Wonderland costume. It’s not just about changing leaves(cause lol what’s that, am I right New Orleans?), pumpkins, candy, cider, or covering your house with all the great decorations you bought at Target on November 1st last year ( I decorated for Halloween 3 weeks ago).
October is about Holidays. October is the beginning of the most wonderful time of the year. I mean sure, October brings us Halloween. It’s a time for dressing as anyone else in the world you’d rather be for the night and a judgement free zone for eating all of the Reese’s pumpkins. I mean it. All of them. And if that’s not enough to be thankful for then November has got you covered. It’s literally a whole month about being thankful. I mean, yeah it was originally about pilgrims stealing land from Native Americans and not even like sharing it with them so we may not be thankful for that necessarily but we still have got have something in this world to be thankful for. We have our loved ones, our favorite books, pugs, HBOgo, and my Mom’s baked macaroni.
Then something magical happens the very month after November. Christmas. And I love Christmas. And Christmas tree shaped Reese’s. And wrapping presents. And dragging Nick to the tree lot to help me pick out the my living room’s newest center piece. All while still being thankful that I have friends and loved ones to wrap presents for and that I have a job that affords me to buy gifts for the people that I love.
It’s not just about pumpkins or presents or even Reese’s holiday candy. It’s about the beginning of the end of the year. It’s about the New Year being right around the corner which brings so many of us so much hope because somehow no matter how unkind we are to our planet she still made another trip around the sun. Even though sometimes the news is crumby we are still able to get dressed up, find something to be thankful for, and do something kind for someone else because we are all still here. We made it around the sun one more time and that feels somehow so good.
