Summer Time and the Sippin’s Easy

October is just around the corner so I guess it’s that time again in Louisiana where the heat of the summer starts to really fade into late summer rains and cool fronts. We hardly have what you might call seasons here. I mean there’s crawfish season in the late spring, snowball season during the summer of course, then hurricane season and football season are sort of over lapping, Carnival and the ever-popular festival season. And one of my favorites, Abita Strawberry season. As a teacher I can’t really complain much about summers. I do have the months of June and July off, after all. But even with that time off are summers ever really long enough? They seem to get shorter every year.

For years my summers consisted of watching re-runs of Unsolved Mysteries on Lifetime, eating Ice Cream for breakfast(at noon), and bossing around my little brothers. I was probably my best self at 12 years old.
Now that I am a refined lady of the world my taste for downtime has changed(slightly). I usually spend the month of June running a theatre camp then July is my real month off. I try to take full advantage of Julys. I scrubbed my house clean, cause honestly I am useless if I have the distraction of an disorganized home. I hosted a bridal shower for a friend whose wedding I am standing in next week, it was loads of work but let’s not pretend that I totally hate party planning. Someone just hire me already to plan all your parties. Oh and I took a quick trip to Cuba( see previous post) and my summer would not have been complete without an extended weekend in my favorite place this side of the Mason Dixon, Nashville, Tn.
And those are just the big things really. I try to sneak in as much self-care time in there as well. Little projects like gardening, sewing projects, and getting to spend whole days with the pugs fill me with more joy than most other things.
Summer is basically over and whatever we have instead of fall is beginning. Here’s to a summer well spent, until the next one.

I’m wearing some of my favorite summer staples! This is one of my all time favorite dresses from Trashy Diva possibly one of the most worn pieces in my closet. It worked perfectly with my necklace from Erstwilder, and these super cute Swedish Hasbeens. Nothing says tamed summer hair like a crown braid.

Oh and the pugs decided my outfit was missing something, them.
